Neurotoxin Injectable Treatments

Neurotoxin injectable treatments, such as Botox and Dysport, are popular non-surgical options for softening dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. These treatments work by relaxing targeted muscles in the area, such as the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes, helping the skin look smoother and more refreshed. (1) At Evolved Medical, every treatment plan is customized to the patient’s facial anatomy, goals, and preference for natural-looking results.

Evolved Medical is one of the Bay Area’s leading aesthetic practices serving Walnut Creek and the surrounding Bay Area. Our team is led by Dr. Amit Rajguru, a board-certified functional medicine physician. Both Dr. Rajguru and the Evolved Medical team offer extensive experience in aesthetic and functional medicine, and they have helped thousands of patients across California and beyond live their lives more freely and comfortably.

About Neurotoxin Injectable Treatments

Botox and Dysport are injectable neuromodulators used to soften expression lines and prevent them from becoming more deeply etched over time. By reducing the muscle activity that contributes to the repeated folding of the skin, these treatments can improve the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet while preserving a natural look when properly dosed. At Evolved Medical, treatment is tailored carefully so results look refreshed, not stiff or overdone.

Benefits

Neurotoxin injectable treatments offer several benefits, including:

  • No surgical incisions or extended downtime
  • Softening of dynamic wrinkles, such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet
  • Personalized dosing based on facial anatomy and treatment goals
  • Results that can appear natural and subtle with the proper techniques.
  • Preventative option for patients who want to address early expression lines before they deepen
  • A heightened sense of confidence, especially regarding your appearance.

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for either Dysport or Botox if you have started developing signs of facial aging and wish to address them. These include wrinkles, creases, fine lines, crow’s feet, and more. You should be in good overall health without any underlying medical conditions, sensitivities, or allergies to either Dysport, Botox, or their ingredients. You should also hold realistic expectations regarding what this procedure may achieve.

We do not recommend neurotoxin injections for anyone with certain neuromuscular disorders, or pregnant or breastfeeding women. (2) If you do not qualify for this treatment, we still recommend scheduling a consultation so that our team may find you an appropriate alternative.

Personal Consultation

Our team asks that each patient attend a personal consultation before receiving their injections. During this meeting, your nurse injector will meet with you individually to help you create your personalized treatment plan. They will explain the benefits and limitations of the treatment, and discuss your medical history, aesthetic concerns, and personal goals. Your nurse injector will also assess your facial structure, skin quality, and overall anatomy.

Your nurse injector will then use this information to create your personalized treatment plan. They will determine whether Dysport or Botox is more appropriate, the best amount of formula to administer, and which muscles to target. Depending on your goals, they may also suggest additional treatments to perform alongside your injections.

Your nurse injector will also take the time to answer any questions you may have about your neurotoxin injectables, as we want you to feel well-informed and confident about your upcoming treatment.

Preparation

Your nurse injector will provide you with a set of comprehensive preparation instructions before your treatment. Your nurse injector may direct you to:

  • Discontinue taking medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties.
  • Modify your skincare routine to refrain from using harsh or irritating skin care products in the treatment areas.
  • Avoid direct or excessive sun exposure leading up to your treatment.
  • Arrive at your appointment with clean skin that is free from any makeup or skin care products.

While preparing for neurotoxin injectables is simple, it is still essential that you follow each direction to ensure the best possible results. If you have any questions or concerns, the Evolved Medical team will be more than happy to provide you with any additional guidance you may need.

Procedure

On the day of your treatment, a member of our team will lead you to a private treatment room, and they will cleanse and sanitize your skin. Your nurse injector will then ask you to make several different facial expressions to assess the location of each muscle before using a skin-safe marker to map out your specific injection sites. This ensures precise administration.

Your nurse injector will then measure out and inject the appropriate amount of your chosen neurotoxin into the targeted areas of your face. These typically include areas like your forehead, the outer corners of the eyes, or the glabellar complex (between the eyebrows), (3) but we can address several other areas as well.

Recovery

After your treatment, you may return to most of your daily activities immediately. However, there are certain restrictions you will need to follow for the first 24-48 hours as your skin heals and the neurotoxin starts to take effect. Your nurse injector may direct you to:

  • Avoid lying down or lowering your head for at least 6 hours after your procedure to ensure the administered formula remains in its original placement.
  • Refrain from placing pressure on, touching, or massaging the treatment area.
  • Abstain from engaging in any strenuous tasks or physical exercise.
  • Abstain from showering or soaking in hot water.

Your nurse injector will provide you with a full set of recovery instructions after your treatment to help you care for yourself as your chosen formula starts to take effect.

Results

Most patients begin noticing their results developing over two weeks. The treated areas will typically appear smoother and more relaxed, while the face still looks natural and expressive. Results will vary by patient, treatment area, and dosing, and most patients experience these improvements for about three to four months before maintenance treatment is considered.

FAQ

How do neurotoxin injectable treatments work?

Neuromodulators, such as our neurotoxin injectables, relax your muscles by blocking the neurotransmitter responsible for repeated facial contractions. This allows your skin to smooth itself out, softening and reducing the appearance of creases, wrinkles, and lines.

What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?

Dysport and Botox both derive from the botulinum toxin and are used to treat dynamic wrinkles. Both can be highly effective, and the best choice will depend on the treatment area, dosing approach, injector preference, and individual patient response. Onset and duration can vary from patient to patient.

How long will the results of my neurotoxin injectable treatment last?

The results of your treatment may vary in duration depending on the area that your nurse injector injected, the type of neurotoxin used, and your body’s natural metabolism. Most patients experience their results lasting between three and five months before returning for re-treatment.

Will my face look frozen after my treatment?

No, when your nurse injector performs your treatment using precise injection techniques, careful targeting, and the appropriate dosing, your results will appear natural.

Can my nurse injector combine my neurotoxin injectable with another aesthetic or wellness treatment?

Yes, your nurse injector may choose to combine your treatment with another depending on your goals. If you are interested in combining your treatment with another, we encourage you to schedule a consultation for further information and personalized results.
