Menopause Treatment

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Walnut Creek, CA

Menopause is a biological process that begins in the year following a woman’s last menstrual cycle. The average age of menopause in the United States is 51 years, (1) but it can start as early as a woman’s late 30s and as late as her early 60s

With the onset of menopause, women experience many changes throughout their bodies. Lower estrogen levels and hormonal fluctuations can cause significant differences in temperature regulation, mood, weight, cognition, and intimate health. These symptoms can be unpleasant and distressing.

At Evolved Medical, functional medicine physician Amit Rajguru, MD works with patients to find the most effective menopause treatments in the form of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), hormone pellets, and other effective functional solutions to menopause symptoms. About Menopause

There are three stages of menopause: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. On average, menopause can last around 7-9 years, but there are those who have experienced it for up to 14 years. During this time, the hormones in the body can fluctuate significantly, leading to physical and emotional symptoms and feelings of discomfort.

Some of the most common and noticeable signs of entering menopause include: (2)

  • Hot Flashes
  • Night Sweats
  • Fatigue
  • Weight Gain
  • Mood Swings
  • Brain Fog
  • Skin and Hair Changes
  • Vaginal Dryness

If you experience any or all of these symptoms, you may be entering menopause

Menopause Facts

  • Every day, approximately 6,000 women reach menopause. (2)
  • Many women report that hot flashes disrupt their work.
  • 1% of women will experience premature menopause before age 40. (1)
  • Around 60% of women will have urogynecological symptoms of menopause.

Menopause affects every woman differently. Many women describe menopause as an important milestone in their life, while for others, it’s business as usual. Some women find they have a shorter temper, while others are significantly impacted by hot flashes. Sexual desire may not change, or it may increase or decrease. With all of these different factors taken into consideration, the question is this: Are the symptoms of menopause interfering significantly with your daily life? If the answer is yes, BHRT and other supportive treatments could be exactly what you need to feel better.

How is Menopause Diagnosed?

Menopause can be medically diagnosed via a blood test that measures the level of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in the blood. The results of this blood test help medical professionals determine what stage of menopause a patient is in.

What Can I Expect From a Doctor’s Visit?

As women age, especially in perimenopause and menopause, they may require additional health tracking. This may take one of several forms and may include the following. (1)

  • Blood Pressure Monitoring
  • Weight Monitoring
  • Breast Examinations
  • Pelvic Examinations
  • Blood Tests

Menopause Treatment

BHRT is a custom-compounded treatment that forms the basis of a highly individualized treatment plan. It is an effective alternative to synthetic hormone therapy, which has indicated a higher risk of developing certain diseases and conditions like cancer and thromboembolism. (3)

Why Choose a Holistic Approach?

We offer bioidentical HRT. That means that we replace the missing hormones with natural, identical hormones that your body already produces. Our patients report superior results and fewer side effects with BHRT compared to using synthetic hormones that are often prescribed by traditional doctors.

Pellet Therapy

BHRT pellets are the gold standard for hormone replacement. In our clinical experience, Pellet therapy is the best option for treating patients going through menopause. Most patients experience significantly improved symptoms with pellets than topical or oral medications. We recommend hormone pellet therapy as the first-line choice for menopause patients.

Benefits of BHRT

  • Relieve hot flashes & night sweats
  • Decrease mood swings, brain fog, headaches
  • Improve low energy and fatigue
  • Increase libido and intimate wellness
  • Help to maintain function and prevent disease.

Why Not Take Antidepressants to Improve My Mood?

At Evolved Medical we focus on a holistic healing approach for significant changes in mood. We address the root of the problem by treating the abnormal hormone levels rather than antidepressant medications which only cover up symptoms. We target and address the main culprit of menopause, which is your abnormal hormone levels.

Candidates

The ideal candidate is anyone who is just entering menopause/perimenopause. During this time, declining female sex hormones can effect how the body functions, and can lead to the onset of certain diseases. Examples of this are muscle loss, bone loss/osteoporosis, and decreased cardiovascular and brain health.

You might be a good candidate for BHRT if you are:

  • Experiencing symptoms of menopause or perimenopause
  • Have irregular menstrual cycle due to unbalanced hormones
  • Suspecting that your hormone levels are irregular

You might not be a good candidate for BHRT if you:

  • Have a history of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or other cancers
  • Have allergies or adverse side effects to bioidentical hormones in the past

FAQ

What is BHRT?

BHRT stands for Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy. That means that the hormones used are the exact same hormones found in your body. This is opposed to synthetic hormones that are made by drug companies and used by traditional doctors.

How long does it take before I can see results?

Most patients see improvements within the first two weeks, but it can take up to 6 weeks before seeing the full effects of the treatment.

What are the risks/side effects of menopause treatment?

Short-term side effects may include weight gain/fluid retention, acne, increased facial hair, vaginal spotting, hair loss, breast tenderness, and cramping.

Will menopause therapy affect my weight?

Weight gain/loss is a possible side effect that can be experienced as hormones begin to regulate.

How long can you stay on BHRT?

Traditional doctors usually recommend menopause treatments for 10-15 years, however, we recommend extended treatment as the loss of functions and the onset of disease risk increases once the hormones are taken away.

Can menopause treatment target stubborn fat?

While some patients experience weight loss, this is not a reliable result as individual results will vary.

What happens if I decide to stop treatment?

Your symptoms may recur if you stop menopause treatment.

Cardiovascular, bone, and brain health may begin to worsen off the hormone therapy. Is there anything I should avoid with treatment?

Since we are using BHRT, which are the same hormones in your body, you should not experience any limitations in these areas.
